- Howdy:
-
- Yesterday I proceeded with the upgrade, taking all the precautions with
- static electricity, etc. I installed a heat sink, but I went on and I
- soldered the oscillator directly into the PCB.
-
- The computer seemed to boot ok without anything connected.
- However, when booting with my Color Pivot LE, all I got was a series of
- black and white strips on the monitor (the system loaded, from the activity
- of the hard drive).
- I took out my 12'' mono monitor, started everything up, and it worked perfectly.
- Speedometer gave me 25% speed increase.
- With my 12'' and the Pivot together, the computer recognized the presence of
- the Pivot, but I still had black & white stripes on it. (Ok for 12'').
-
- Now, the obvious solution would be to go back to 20 MHz. As I soldered the
- oscillator, I had to desolder it, install a socket, and put the oscillator
- in place. I damaged the original one (40MHz), but I'll get a new one on Monday.
-
- Possible reasons:
- - The Pivot card does want to run at 25 MHz.
- - The card was dammaged during the process (Oh, no!)
-
- Solution:
- - Go back to 20 Mhz, and test the card.
- - Tinker around with the card.
-
- Any help would be appreciated. I'll post any conclusions when I get the
- 40 MHz oscillator.
