  10. Help!   I have an external PLI Turbo 100 MB Hard Disk Drive hooked up to a
  11. MacPlus (4MB ram, System 7.01 with tuneup 1.1.1)  Usually it works fine, but
  12. sometimes it seems that the Hard Disk drive will suddenly spin down.  The fan
  13. in the HD keeps running, and the picture stays on the monitor when this
  14. happens.  Sometimes the HD will spin back up, and everything will work fine,
  15. but occasionally the spin down will happen again.  When this happens I'll have
  16. to do a shutdown without going through the software, and get some corrupted
  17. files. I don't know if "spin down" is a reserved technical word - I just hear
  18. what sounds like the drive literally spinning/whirring up to speed, and then it
  19. will sound like it's slowing back down as if I'd done a shutdown.  Does anyone
  20. have any ideas on what this problem is? How would I go about fixing/repairing
  21. the problem?  Usually the drive works fine with the MacPlus - but this random
  22. unreliability is frustrating.  I'd appreciate e-mail on what this problem is
  23. and how to go about solving it.  I don't read this newsgroup regularly, but
  24. I'll post back a summary of suggestions/solutions, and what I end up with.
