- Help! I have an external PLI Turbo 100 MB Hard Disk Drive hooked up to a
- MacPlus (4MB ram, System 7.01 with tuneup 1.1.1) Usually it works fine, but
- sometimes it seems that the Hard Disk drive will suddenly spin down. The fan
- in the HD keeps running, and the picture stays on the monitor when this
- happens. Sometimes the HD will spin back up, and everything will work fine,
- but occasionally the spin down will happen again. When this happens I'll have
- to do a shutdown without going through the software, and get some corrupted
- files. I don't know if "spin down" is a reserved technical word - I just hear
- what sounds like the drive literally spinning/whirring up to speed, and then it
- will sound like it's slowing back down as if I'd done a shutdown. Does anyone
- have any ideas on what this problem is? How would I go about fixing/repairing
- the problem? Usually the drive works fine with the MacPlus - but this random
- unreliability is frustrating. I'd appreciate e-mail on what this problem is
- and how to go about solving it. I don't read this newsgroup regularly, but
- I'll post back a summary of suggestions/solutions, and what I end up with.
- Thanks, Brian Rowning. e-mail at browning@terapin.com
