  12. I have a database in Works 2.0 and I need to decide
  13. whether to upgrade to Works 3.0 or perhaps move to
  14. Panorama 2.0 or FMP 2.0. The event precipitating
  15. this decision is my recent upgrade to sys 7.0x in
  16. 32-bit mode to use my 17 meg on an Si. Works 2.0
  17. is not 32-bit clean.

  19. I have played with Panorama 2.0 some, and I like its speed
  20. and its apparent ability to export data in a variety
  21. of text formats that can be readily used by Word 5.1a's
  22. Print Merge utility. On the other hand, I am a registered
  23. FM II user with an opportunity to upgrade to FMP 2.0
  24. for $89. I also am unimpressed with Panorama's apparent 
  25. inability to read the first row of an import file as the 
  26. field names. Will FMP 2.0 do this?

  28. The ability to exchange data and field names with Word 5.1a
  29. is my most immediate concern, but of course I will use the
  30. database for many other purposes, eg to store the results
  31. of library research.

  33. In summary, here are my Qs:
  34. 1. Is there a way to get Panorama 2.0 to read the first
  35. row of an imported file as field names for a new database?
  36.  
  37. 2. Will FMP 2.0 read the first row of an imported file
  38. as field names for a new database?
  39.  
  40. 3. Can you easily export FMP 2.0 data with the first row
  41. as field names? A choice of tab, comma, . . . delimted data?
  42.  
  43. 4. Is Panorama 2.0 or FMP 2.0 powerful and user friendly enough
  44. to do form letters within them?
  45.  
  46. 5. How is FMP's speed, eg with selects and sorts, compared with
  47. FMP's?
  48.  
  49. 6. Any troublesome bugs in either?
  50.  
  51. 7. Should I be considering yet a 3d application?
  52.  
  53. Any thoughts on any of these Qs are appreciated!
