- Hi,
-
- Having installed the SLS 0.98.1 distribution, then upgraded the
- kernel to 0.98.5 + ALPHA SCSI, I have noticed some difficulty with
- X11 clients.
-
- Namely, several of them, such as showfont, give the message:
-
- can't open server "(null)"
-
- I have tried specifying VGA256, vga256, and Ischade (my machine name)
- in order to get it to run, to no avail. Has anyone else run into this
- problem and, if so, have they found a solution?
-
- Also - when installing X11, the server wouldn't start because it was
- unable to locate the fixed fonts. I copied my .../lib/X11/fonts/Speedo
- from the older X11 dist. and it started fine. As an experiment, I also
- used the compressed fonts, which seem to work ok. I was trying to confirm
- this with "showfont". Changing the fonts doesn't seem to affect the
- outcome. I also noticed this problem when trying to run xtrek.
-
- any help is much appreciated!
-
- Thanks,
-
- Jean.
