- Prior to the NEC CDR-84J all CDROM drives had the same (variable)
- rate of rotation and sustained transfer rate of 153.6KB/sec. The
- CDR-84J is the first of an impending avalanche of drives that spin
- twice as fast which results in 2X transfer rate (300KB/sec). Early
- next year when more of these 2X models become available it should
- obsolete and/or drive the price down on the old 1X models.
