- There's two kinds of disks: those that have crashed, and those that are
- going to.
-
- For those of you who thought that it couldn't happen, I'd like to let
- you know that even the Fujitsu drives with the 5-year warranties can
- crash. Mine was a 770mb M2263SA with about 2.5 years of use. It was used
- as the main disk in a Sun 386i and served out quite a few files to a
- small network of DOS machines.
-
- My company got it from Access in Santa Clara. We were initially told
- that it would take a month to get it fixed, so we tried to go directly
- to Fuji. Fuji said that it would only honor the warranty with the
- dealer. We leaned on the dealer some more and managed to work a deal
- where we gave them $75 and they got us a replacement in a couple of
- days.
-
- The new drive is now installed and humming and clicking away (damn but
- they're loud). Fortunately we now do a full backup every other night and
- the crash occured the day after the backup, so nothing was lost.
