- Switching to VMSTAR (obtained from ftp.spc.edu) fixed the problem.

- The buggy tar was version 1.2 of "VMS TAR", originating in Australia.
- Let's hope that the program's authors fix it - it has a nice VMS command
- line. Sorry folks, I don't remember which FTP site it came from.
