  30. I believe the answer to your "I don't know" is No, you can't do the same
  31. thing on the server/station's as you can on the other machines.  As I
  32. posted a reply earlier, we are a non-educational site and just did this on
  33. a VS3100.  But it was a different part number than the OpenVMS license
  34. upgrades.  And, I guarantee you, unless for some reason you get a
  35. "special" deal from your rep, the VMS upgrade prices on servers/stations
  36. are "much" more than the $300/seat for the "new" OpenVMS licensing.  This,
  37. obviously, is how DEC will control the pricing gap between server/stations
  38. and the "real" timesharing machines.  One other thing to note...I have been
  39. told, but have not had a chance to confirm this yet, that once I upgrade
  40. the number of licenses on a VAXstation that the layered product unit rating
  41. doubles.  Of course 20 units is still better for many sites than the 100
  42. units for a VAX 4100.  Again this last bit of info has not been confirmed by
  43. me, but just mentioned by my local rep.

  46. Believe it or not, we currently have a sales rep. who we can trust.  Of
  47. course we'll see how long it will last before he gets reassigned or
  48. laid off.  (And I have been on the other side of the fence with "worthless"
  49. ones!!!)
