- Hello!
-
- I'm trying to set up Windows 3.1 on a '486-machine, 16 Meg, with an Adaptec
- 1542b SCSI host adapter and a Conner SCSI disk.
-
- At first, Windows refused to start in 386 enhanced mode at all (standard
- mode works). After including the following in the [386enh]-section of
- SYSTEM.INI, and configuring Windows to use no swap file, it finally does
- start:
-
- 32BitDiskAccess=false
- ;this is where the Adaptec's Bios is:
- EMMExclude=C000-DFFF
- SystemRomBreakPoint=False
- VirtualHDIrq=off
-
- Still, I'm not happy with what Windows does. If I specify any swapfile,
- permanent or not, it won't boot. When I open a DOS box, Windows *exits*
- silently (leaving me with a quick way to exit Windows without using a
- utility, but sans Dos-Box :-|).
-
- Any clues?
-
- Regards,
- J. Mennecke
