- According to MS (and my experience) there should be no problems doing this.
- What is (or isn't) happening?
-
- MS Application Note PD0315 states that the MSDOS 5 RESTORE command can
- read BACKUP disks created by any version of DOS up to 5.0.
-
- Don't forget that RESTORE will only permit you to restore a file to the
- same directory structure where it was found by BACKUP, although you may
- do the RESTORE to a different drive letter. Thus, if you did a BACKUP of:
-
- c:\foo\readme.txt
-
- you can restore it to:
-
- d:\foo\
-
- but the RESTORE command will not restore it to:
-
- c:\bar\
-
- In the last case RESTORE will report "FILE NOT FOUND" or some similar message.
-
- Incidentally, application note PD0315 includes a nice program to generate
- an index of the contents of the backup disk.
