  21. Uh, Yes and No. This is a perfect description of the Ameritech
  22. Personal Communication Services phone that I'm involved in long-term
  23. testing of.  You may recall that a few months back, I posted a message
  24. saying that I had been signed up by Ameritech here in the Chicago area
  25. to be a tester of the product (along with several hundred other
  26. people) when the prototypes were rolled out. I've now had the phone
  27. for about six weeks.

  29. It functions exactly as you described; incoming calls are routed to a
  30. VoiceMail box which beeps you on the phone with either your own number
  31. (if the caller left a voice message) or with another number entered by
  32. the caller in your mailbox. You then return the call as you see fit.
  33. Unfortunately this is only a test, with severely limited service areas
  34. for using the phone for outgoing calls, although the incoming call
  35. paging goes through Ameritech's standard pager system and will reach
  36. you anywhere. They tell me that similar systems are being tested by
  37. other Bell companies around the country, so you might want to see if
  38. anything similar is available in San Francisco.
