  13. Since my inquiry re: CS-500 vs ASM perormance has simply set the newsgroup
  14. abuzz with followups, lemme try something else.

  16. My company needs to pick a platform for async access to our network.  The
  17. choices are the Netblazer (cheap) vs the Cisco families (nice).  We need
  18. to make the right choice now, since we want to commit to a platform that
  19. we can be happy with over the next n years.  We're probably looking at
  20. about 160 ports over the next 2 years.

  22. The reliabilty is sorta important, for example we just ordered a
  23. Hayes Millenium 8000 series (which is INCREDIBLY overpriced), but it looks
  24. like a real SOLID piece of engineering.  They also have some intriguing
  25. future plans for the platform, but that's another story...

  27. Some advantages of the Netblazer...
  28.     1 box can support 24 ports

  30.     ISDN ready (?)

  32.     Cheap(er).  Note that this may be peculiar to our situation,
  33.     we have about a zillion of their 8 port boards lying around.
  34.     (Anyone need any?)

  36.     Good support for dialup modems (scripts, configs, etc..)

  38.     THEY WILL ACTUALLY TAKE MY MONEY AND ONE WILL SHOW UP
  39.     ON MY DOORSTEP IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME.

  43.     It's a complex system with lots of components, lower MTBF

  48.     Well, hey, it's a Cisco!  Ie, it's probably going to work
  49.     in very short order after we plug it in.

  51.     CS-500 is a small, simple, reliable platform.

  56.     Zillion year wait to get one.  Christ, I'd like to just
  57.     *borrow* one, how long is the waiting list for that?

  59. Can anyone who has, or had, both give me some feedback?  I think it's
  60. noteworthy that Alternet is choosing Netblazers...
