-
- Actually this is not as facetious as it sounds. Most UNIX fax vendors prefer
- to target the high end (less competition with the DOS products I guess).
- And in that market customers are a little less worried with sharing the
- fax line with other uses.
-
- I presume that as the UNIX workstation market increases in size and breadth
- there will be increased need for a low end product that does work with generic
- modems. The V32bis/V42bis/Fax/Voice type things (e.g. ZyXEL) that are coming
- out now. It will need to allow data/fax/voice for both inbound and outbound
- calls. And support Caller ID (void where prohibited).

-
- In principle I agree with you. The problem is one of limited resources. It's
- not so much a matter of whether we'll support Class 2.0 as when. For now we
- just keep collecting Class 2 modems and building in fixes to our software
- to correct the firmware bugs.
-
- I expect things won't change much with Class 2.0. Plug it in. Try it out.
- See what doesn't work. Look for a work around. Document the things that we
- can't ignore. I'm sure that most fax software guy's will agree. The *last*
- thing we look forward too is the UPS guy arriving with a box.
-
- And nobody likes us. The customers complain when we tell them why their
- modems are no good. The manufacters don't like being told they have a bug
- ("It works with our DOS software!") and the sales guy's never could understand
- us anyhow :-)
-
- BTW the above rantings should definitely be assumed to be my personal opinions.
