- Cadence has paid boo-coo bucks to Frame to allow Cadence to incorporate
- the FrameViewer product into the Cadence toolset. However, (any Cadence
- people who know may feel free to correct this if I have remembered it
- wrong) the contract basically states that the FrameViewer that Cadence
- uses in its toolset is not to be used as a stand alone product. It can
- only be used in conjunction with Cadence's Design Framework II.
-
- On the other hand, (at least in Opus 4.0 - I have not tried it in 4.2 or
- 4.2.1) you can buy FrameViewer or FrameMaker directly from Frame and use
- it with the Cadence toolset rather than the one Cadence provides. I do
- not remember the setup needed but I recall that you not only need to set
- FMHOME but some other variable as well as add some lines to the .cdsinit
- file. The CRC should have the needed info to help you get set up. (The
- CRC number is 1-800-223-3622 or 1-800-CADENC2.)
-
- Lastly, I do not usually deal with the contracts and money end but I
- believe that the FrameViewer from Cadence is a no-charge item and can
- not be discounted from your license fee. So as long as you have them
- available you might as well use them. Just find out which users are not
- interested in using Frame for anything other than Cadence and have them
- set up to look only at the Cadence FrameViewer. That way your other
- Frame licenses are free for other people outside of Cadence users.
