- You misunderstand the report...the net cost of transportation is not
- going to change...it is just that the report recommends that more of
- the cost be born by the user and less by the taxpayer.

- For example, why should property tax or income tax pay for highway
- construction...we should just put up toll booths on the highway.

- That is the spirit of the changes it seems the report is recommending
- from news reports. It seems like it also is recommending carbon
- taxes...the NDP and Liberals are pretty much for carbon taxes, and
- other such user pay environmental taxes.

- I'm reserving judgement on the report until I know more about the
- details, but some steps towards transferring the costs to users
- and away from the taxpayer does make some sense. However in terms
- of strategic long-term planning of the transportation infrastructure
- of the country, I really can't see how governments can avoid being
- somewhat involved.
