  14. Judging by the helpful replies I have received so far, one thing I forgot to
  15. mention is critical -- #3 son, in his youthful exhuberence -- changed insurance
  16. companies in such a way that the policies did not overlap (he saved one month's
  17. premium that way) and was not covered by insurance for 3 days.  The accident,
  18. of course, happened on day 3 of that period, so he doesn't have an insurance
  19. company to fight the battle for him ...
