- DIGITAL BRINGS 21st CENTURY COMPUTING TO TRI-ADA SHOW
-
-
- Demonstrates Alpha AXP workstations, Ada futures,
- and integrated environments
-
-
- ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- November 17, 1992 -- Digital Equipment
- Corporation is giving attendees of the TRI-Ada '92 tradeshow a
- glimpse of the possibilities for Ada software development with a
- technology demonstration of the DEC Ada compiler on its recently
- announced, 64-bit Alpha AXP workstations. Underscoring its role as
- the world's leading supplier of Ada products and services, Digital
- is also showing smart recompilation -- a future Ada technology --
- and highlighting the popular Motif Ada bindings that are included in
- the current version DEC Ada for RISC ULTRIX systems.
-
- "Digital is committed to delivering high-performance Ada
- compilers and advanced Ada environments on multiple platforms,"
- stated Pat Bernard, Ada Business and Marketing Manager at Digital.
- "The 64-bit capacity of the new Alpha AXP architecture assures Ada
- developers of a leading platform literally into the twenty-first
- century. Likewise, advanced features such as smart recompilation
- will provide Ada programmers with the benefits of the latest in
- productivity enhancements."
-
- The DEC Ada compiler for Alpha AXP systems is part of Digital's
- aggressive rollout of Alpha AXP software products that began with
- the announcement of Alpha AXP systems, software, applications, and
- services on November 10. The Ada compiler for OpenVMS AXP systems is
- in porting centers now, and is on schedule for delivery in the first
- half of the 1993 calendar year.
-
- Also highlighted in the Digital booth are the Motif Ada
- bindings included in DEC Ada Version 1.1 for RISC ULTRIX systems.
- Motif Ada bindings help Ada developers create sophisticated
- graphical and UI applications by giving them access to X and Motif
- software. Digital's Ada bindings are unique in that they are
- included with the compiler at no extra charge, and are strongly
- "typed" for Ada; that is, they are designed to look and act like an
- extension of the Ada language.
-
- The company is also demonstrating another future for its Ada
- product set: Ada support for the DEC FUSE programming environment.
- DEC FUSE is an integrated, graphics-based development environment,
- built on a foundation of UNIX commands and utilities.
-
- The other area of focus for the Digital exhibit is integrated
- environments. The COHESION ASD/SEE (Aerospace-Defense/Software
- Engineering Environment) will be the center-piece of Digital's
- computer-aided software engineering (CASE) demonstration at the
- TRI-Ada Conference. COHESION ASD/SEE is a comprehensive set of
- integrated products and services for software engineering. The
- COHESION ASD/SEE has proven successful in providing a software
- development environment to the Lockheed F-22 Advanced Tactical
- Fighter, the United States Air Force's vanguard weapon for
- maintaining air superiority in the 21st century.
-
- Digital's overall COHESION environment brings together multiple
- computing platforms, vendors, tools, application types, computing
- styles, and support services for development projects of all sizes.
- The COHESION ASD/SEE is a component of Digital's COHESION
- environment, targeted specifically at the Aerospace and Defense
- industries. Other CASE solutions demonstrated in the Digital booth
- include OOSD/Ada (Object-Oriented Structured Design/Ada), a product
- of Interactive Development Environments, and PCMS (Product
- Configuration Management System), a product of SQL Software Limited.
-
- Digital Equipment Corporation, headquartered in Maynard,
- Massachusetts, is the leading worldwide supplier of networked
- computer systems, software and services. Digital pioneered and
- leads the industry in interactive, distributed and multivendor
- computing. Digital and its business partners deliver the power to
- use the best integrated solutions - from desktop to data center -
- in open information environments.
