- Shapiro,Wilk,and Chen(1968) JASA 63:1343-1372 report an empirical
- comparison of alternative methods for testing for normality. The
- methods they compare include the chi-squared test, the Kolmogorov-
- Smirnov test, as well as the Shapiro-Wilk test. 45 alternative
- distributions in 12 families and five sample sizes were studied.
- Overall, the S-W test was most powerful.
- It also can be applied to small sample sizes.
