  14. The one thing that I would caution you on is that as I saw your list
  15. of databases.. and one thing you may want to be VERY careful on is that
  16. although all those years are available, alot of times only the MOST
  17. current will be used.   We only bought 3 years of the Business Abstract
  18. File (BUSI for NOTIS) and as it was we had over a million records.
  19. We have had a challenge trying to fit in all the data that we want since
  20. the original estimates that come with the NOTIS loaders are based (I
  21. believe) on their test data.. I think that NOTIS should seriously revise
  22. their estimates based on the REAL experience of current sites (maybe via
  23. a poll??) and update their documentation accordingly.  There is nothing like
  24. the feeling of BUYING the data from the vendor, providing space estimates
  25. for your computing center, maybe buying or installing dedicated volumes,
  26. then find out that the estimates were way off and cannot acommodate your
  27. file plus the other 4 files that are part of each MDAS file (the MHI and
  28. each of 3 Keyword related files).  I really don't see a survey like this
  29. being a large effort.. especially if some sites were willing to provide
  30. some of the data via email (such as number of records, total space per
  31. file (bib, MHI, 3 keyword files) and also pad space included (such as
  32. 20% free for growth, Years backdata,etc)  Its silly that we have to have new
  33. sites REINVENTING the wheel each time with the same databases.
