- This statement is wrong. Germany (west) was experiencing a boom period for
- more than 2 years while other industrialized countries around the world
- were in a recession. Some of the demand generated from German unification
- has spread out to other countries. Austria in particular benefitted from
- it. Some 1/10 percentage points of economic growth in Austria was
- attributed to this effect (Sorry, I could not find the precise figures at
- the moment).
- This development is closely related to other developments resulting from
- the removal of barriers between East and West Europe. To those who are
- interested in these processes: The discussion list CERRO-L@AEARN.BITNET
- focusses on the economic aspects of restructuring in Central Europe. In
- march there will be a virtual conference over the network on this topic. If
- you want to know more, please write to me directly (maier@nestroy.wu-wien.
- ac.at).
