  12. Te unification of Germany did not affect its neighbours in a
  13. a positive way. Dismantling former East Germany left the West part
  14. of the country in disarray. Unempolyed East Germans flooded the West in
  15. serch of jobs. The strong economy of the west saw its strength
  16. diminishing as a result of this influx.
  17. It was hoped that the unification would bring economic prosperity to
  18. Germany, but unfortunately things do not seem to be heading in that
  19. direction. Germany's neighbours are worried that a less stable Germany
  20. would affect the future of the EC and the planned union of its members.
