- Unless you are running At Ease, or one of the other Finder replacements, or are
- running one or more startup applications. Then you will see the display
- appropriate to that environment, not the Finder desktop.

-
- I've never heard it called an "open desktop", but that's of no matter. The
- icons that are seen are of many more shapes than just the folder and generic
- document and application icons. Every application can have its own icon as
- well as several different icons for the different types of files associated
- with it. In addition, System 7, as well as some System 6 extensions, allow you
- to assign your own custom icons to just about everything.

-
- What you refer to as the "Size" box is generally called the "Zoom" box. The
- close box just closes the window on the disk device or folder when you click
- it. If you are inside an application, the close box merely closes the current
- document, it does not close the application (with the exception of a few early
- applications and desk accessories). You need to select Quit from the File menu
- to close the application.
