- I recently wrote some responses to an article asking for info
- on DOS backup. In those dicussions I made reference to my
- favoritism for the Macintosh Operating system. This rasied some
- questions about the MAc sytem and generated other responses.
-
- I would like to answer some of the questions and issues rasied.
-
- Topic #1 Backup on a MAC:
-
- There are several methods that can be used to backup up
- a Macintosh system. The simpliest method is to backup file by
- file or folder by folder on to floppy disk. To use this method;
- simply highlight the desired file(s) or Folder(s) by point the
- mouse pointer over the desired item(s) and clicking once; then
- drag them (the Icons) to the Icon of the Floppy disk load for
- this purpose.
- A second method is similar to above except you drag the
- desired items to te icon of an external Hard Drive instead.
- A third method use a backup program that was furnished
- with the Apple system. If you use this program you open it and
- use appropriate command found in the menu choices. You load
- unformated disk one at a time and the software formats and save
- all the files and folders in sequence. you will be prompted
- when to insert additional disk. A variation on this method is
- to use a Software program called SumII and open its Backup
- Application. This method is easier than Apple's Backup program
- it compresses the Files/Folders at the same time. Other backup
- Applications are Retrospect, Norton Utilities for the MAC and
- others.
- A variation on method three, you can use Syquest,
- Bourneli Boxes, Removable Hard Disk units, Optical technologies.
- Most all come with some type of software to format the
- technology and to backup.
-
- This is the end of this posting for now. I will post a series
- of Articles (based on my knowledge--which is not extensive)
- this subject.
