- Here is a quick summary of the meeting that was held Saturday, November 14th
- at the main branch of the Austin Public Library in conjunction with the
- Austin EFF meeting. Speakers feel free to post longer accounts of your
- speeches. I am going to post my speech notes in a seperate message.

- 1. I (max@underg.ucf.org, max@cerf.net) spoke on why on thought public
- Internet access is important, and how it might be accomplished, and my
- efforts to find a net connection.

- 2. Paco Nathan Alexander (pacoid@wixer.cactus.org) spoke about how other
- cities with less have greater access, and how we ought to be able to
- do something to provide access to the net. Also he is interested in
- publicizing the efforts to provide net access.

- 3. Chris Petrilli (petrilli@nextover.pe.utexas.edu, petrilli@gnu.ai.mit.edu)
- and Bob Izenberg (bobi@vswr.sps.mot.com, bei@dogface.austin.tx.us) spoke
- on their Connect*Austin project. This is basically a three stage project.

- 4. Lisa deGruyter (ldeg@tenet.edu) spoke about working within the bureaucracy
- and her efforts to start a freenet, or freenet like service in Austin.

- 5. John Quartermain (jsq@tic.com) provided some technical guidance, and
- encouraged us to 'just do it'!
