- | Yes, I think the cost is a red herring, though $60 in one hit can be made to
- | sound like a lot, especially to those who are waiting anxiously on their
- | next pay/pension cheque.
-
- It is not widely known, but it is possible to pay in instalments. There
- are also cheaper grades, such as Student (full time only), financially-
- challenged (used to be called Pensioner), and of course AR-free.
-
- | I've been working on an introductory leaflet for the WIA, and I just
- | tried to express the cost in a different way, and i came up with "less than
- | 20 cents a day" - less than renting a TV, which you wouldn't need anyway
- | if you were active...
-
- I would gladly spend 20 cents/day, if I knew someone was making sure that
- I was able to continue using my favourite bands/modes every day. Of course
- you would want an assurance that the money is wisely spent, as Terry has
- already pointed out.
-
- | Still $60 is too much for those who think nothing about spending thousands
- | on a rig. It's just a very weak attempt to justify a politically
- | motivated decision or simple apathy.
-
- You got it. It's easier to say "I can't afford it!" rather than say "I'm
- not going to renew my membership because I think the WIA stinks, but I am
- incapable of forming a coherent argument, because Mr Ed has done it for me,
- so instead I'll say I can't afford it." Boy, you should see some of the
- remarks on the rejected renewals that crossed our desk...
