- I have a friend who is teaching a Year 3 student arithmetic. At
- present, we are trying to think of examples of using fractions in
- everyday life. Why should we even bother adding or subtracting
- fractions when decimals will do the job almost as well?
-
- Despite our best attempts, we could only find one good real-life
- example:
-
- Fuel: ``I have a quarter tank of petrol. A full tank is 20 litres.
- How many litres should I buy if I want an extra half a tank of
- petrol?''
-
- If you have any good reasons (from the point of view of a 8 or 9 year
- old) for learning fractions, please email. I will post a summary if
- there is enough interest.
-
- Regards,
