-
- Greetings.
-
- I am in looking at purchasing a PC to run a Unix derivative on, however,
- the more I look at hardware the muddier the water seems to get.
-
- Current prospective hardware is:
-
- o 486DX33 (or DX50) 256k cache
- o 8M RAM
- o Adaptec 1542B SCSI-2 Host Adaptor
- o 540M Connor SCSI Drive
- o 4 Port Serial Card (Brand not selected yet)
- o 1Meg TSENG Labs SVGA Card + Monitor
-
- The questions now begin, and these relate to the selection
- of SCSI for the drives.
-
- 1) Does anybody have experience they can relate about
- the differences between IDE and SCSI.
-
- 2) I've selected SCSI because that will allow extras such
- as extra hard drive(s), CD-ROM, TapeDrive to be added
- without the need for extra interface cards.
- Does this work in practice?
-
- If you have any comments that you feel may be relevant to
- any (or all) of the selected hardware then I would like to
- hear from you.
-
- Please respond via eMail and I'll summarise if necessary.
-
