- Speaking of plurals, a number of years ago McDonald's commissioned a
- survey of usage experts to determine the proper plural for Egg McMuffin.
- They didn't ask me, but I would have offered the following:
-
- Egg McMuffins : too ordinary
- Eggs McMuffin : the analogy with Eggs Benedict doesn't hold, because EB
- typically has 2 eggs; and besides, where would they get
- all those billions of truffles?
-
- Eggs McMuffins : this double plural, on the analogy of children (which
- takes the sg. child, adds the plural -er, followed by
- an additional plural, -en, would definitely make the
- product stand out. Nonetheless, my preference is for
-
- Egg McMuffin : the zero-plural, on the analogy of fish, sheep, deer.
- If you want class and cachet, this is the form to pick.
-
- Anyway, so far as I know, the whole project was dropped before a corporate
- solution could be determined.
