I agree with the others that you should eat your normal meals on the
day of the party and then eat whatever you can at the party. I think
the key is drawing attention away from how little you're actually
eating by making sure they know how much you enjoy what you are eating.
Take a small spoonful of the more fattening things and take a lot of
the good things, vegetables, salads, etc., and eat and say "MMMMMM,
Marge, this is delicious!". After you've eaten enough to satisfy
you, say "Ohhh, I'm stuffed, I couldn't eat another bite, I wish
I could because it was fantastic, but I just can't".
If they comment on how little you ate, just smile and say that you
just can't eat a lot in one sitting. They'll understand
