  13. Gee....I have been reading this thread...and I suddenly 
  14. saw my life flash before my eyes!

  16. I, too, have been guilty of giving and giving and not getting
  17. much in return... I have a friend I have know for years and years,
  18. for several years, fancied myself in love with him....
  19.  
  20. I always called him, always invited him places, etc. etc...
  21. he would always accept...since we were good friends...but
  22. he rarely ever returned the favour...(maybe i just never gave
  23. him much of a chance!)

  25. I also made it very clear that i was in love with him, but
  26. i never pushed him to tell me how he felt about me, or whether
  27. he thought we could ever be "more than friends"...he told me
  28. once that he did love me....but i knew from the fact that he
  29. never took me seriously that it wasn't really the same love i
  30. felt for him.... so i spent four years in a "social boyfriend/
  31. girlfriend relationship"....he had a "date" for everything,
  32. but never displayed romantic overtones or went too much out
  33. of the way for me..

  35. then this year, i met someone who literally swept me off my
  36. feet...and truly has appreciated me from day one....so,
  37. needless to say, i don't have too much time anymore (or the
  38. inclination) to call my friend as often as i used to..or
  39. to go out with him as often....
  40.  
  41. and ya know what?  now *he* calls me nearly everyday,
  42. and it's always him who asks me to go places and do things...
  43. and since now i know i love him as a friend, of course, we
  44. still do things...but it's funny to think how once i would have
  45.  
  46. ..oops....rapturous to have all this attention from him..
  47.  
  48. so i guess my advice to the orginial poster is that 
  49. *YES* ...hard as it is...take care of yourself first
  50. and don't let yourself be walked on....

  52. sometimes they gotta feel your absence to appreciate
  53. your presence....
