- I played with a lot of the digital 900MHz phones at the Consumer
- Electronics Show last Spring. While even their promotional literature
- misinforms the public in varying degrees (from "scrambled" to "makes
- scanners useless"), if you explain the difference between 'coding' &
- 'encrypting' to their sales reps, they generally will admit that there isn't
- any encryption.
-
- They've already had contact with certain U.S. government agencies.
- Obstensibly, this was because the government was interested in getting some
- *secure* cordless phones. So far, none of the companies have wanted to put
- up the $$ to do the R&D & get the end-result certified by the gov't.
-
-
- Some enterprising hackers ought to fiddle with a Soundblaster card &
- software in regards to decoding the digital audio from the cordless
- phones...
