  12. I finished reading Strata recently, and stumbled across
  13. some dog-latin (ok, across one sentence, but I couldn't phrase
  14. that right). Anyway, here goes:
  15. In Strata, Corgi books, 3rd reprint 1991, p.114, the shand
  16. Silver says "Cape illud, fracturor" after flooring someone with
  17. a well-thrown stone. According to my dad (stupid me learned
  18. russian instead of latin in school), this translates as
  19. "Take this, buster", or something the like.

  21. By the way, in Botany there's a so-called priority-rule for
  22. naming species, saying that the oldest scientific name of a
  23. species is to be used in systematics. Generously applied to the
  24. APF it would mean we'd have to use the name "shand-latin"
  25. instead of "dog-latin", since Strata is older than Moving
  26. Pictures...
