- Lightning superheats the air immediately surrounding it to millions of
- degrees. This hot air expands outwards at an incredible rate, fast
- enough to create thunder. A teleporting object, on the other hand,
- probably just vanishes, and the resulting collapse of air would be only
- a brief gust of wind. (I always wondered how arriving teleportees
- avoided the problem of assimilating N2 and O2 throughout their bodies.)

- I prefer to avoid the term 'sonic boom' myself--a) I can't tell whether
- I'm reading a.f.p. or alt.games.sfII, and b) It's only a lot of air
- moving really fast, but going nowhere. :)
