  30. Lightning superheats the air immediately surrounding it to millions of
  31. degrees.  This hot air expands outwards at an incredible rate, fast
  32. enough to create thunder.  A teleporting object, on the other hand,
  33. probably just vanishes, and the resulting collapse of air would be only
  34. a brief gust of wind.  (I always wondered how arriving teleportees
  35. avoided the problem of assimilating N2 and O2 throughout their bodies.)

  37. I prefer to avoid the term 'sonic boom' myself--a) I can't tell whether
  38. I'm reading a.f.p. or alt.games.sfII, and b) It's only a lot of air
  39. moving really fast, but going nowhere. :)
