  20. The original six thousand colonists have grown to a couple of million by
  21. Moreta's time, I believe, and by Lessa's time probably around five million
  22. or so.  Is this reasonable?  Given that a Weyr probably has only about
  23. five to ten thousand people, this means by far the largest concentration
  24. of people is in the Holds, as is proper in any agrarian society.  Let's
  25. see, how big is Fort Hold, the largest?  Call it twenty thousand at most.
  26. So, four million into twenty thousand is about 200 holds the size of
  27. Fort (allowing a generous one million Crafters).  Since there are barely 
  28. twenty holds comparable to Fort's size, this shows that most everyone lives 
  29. in minor or one-family holds on the Lord Holders' lands.

  31. Any speculation on the relative sizes of the Crafts? Any bets that the
  32. Weavers and Tailors are really the biggest crafts on Pern?  After all,
  33. not everyone has six daughters to sew for him/her like Lord Holders do.
