- I can't recall the movie's ending (although it was a Disney flick, so they
- may well have sanitized it by removing the nasty bits) but the book ended with
- Travis shooting Yeller in the corncrib because the dog had "hydrophobia" (aka
- rabies) from his contact with the "big old loafer Wolf." However, the stranger
- from earlier in the book (who gave Yeller to the family in exchange for dinner)
- came back and gave them a new puppy to fill the void.

- For any non-'Merkins out there: we're referring to a movie/book called _Old
- Yeller_, which was about an American frontier family and some adventures with
- "an old Yeller dog" ("Yeller" being both his color (yellow) and his
- disposition) given to them by a passing herdsman. It's practically required
- reading in some grade schools (6-12 years old) around the country, or was
- when I was that age...
