-
- I am here to publically admit my lameness. I graudated from nearby
- Swarthmore (hey, Maura, how's it goin'?) in '92, and back in the spring of
- '91, I heard on the net that Dave would be speaking at Haverford. I believe
- he was scheduled to speak on a Friday night, though I don't know what
- Haverford would be doing holding graduation ceremonies at night, so I could
- be wrong there. In any case, I heard about it a few days in advance of the
- event, and thought "Wow, that would be cool to go hear, but I'm sure we'll
- all be too busy."
-
- Well, for some reason, many of our usual group of friends were otherwise
- occupied that Friday night, so a trio of us were sitting around being bored.
- I have an image of the three of us sitting in the CS lab, which is a good
- indicator of just how bored we really were, since I was the only one who had
- a CS account. Suddenly, like a flash of sunlight being reflected off the
- watch of some snotnosed little kid, it hit me: WE COULD BE AT HAVERFORD,
- LISTENING TO DAVE BARRY. I swore, and cursed my failing memory, and had to
- explain to my friends why I had suddenly begun screaming and tearing my hair.
-
- I knew full well that The Man would be appearing, within easy driving
- distance, at a time when I had absolutely nothing else to do, and I missed
- it. I had a time, a place, and could easily have gotten directions, and I
- blew it. I apologized profusely to my two friends, but I don't know that
- either of them ever forgave me.
-
- On the other hand, I did get a letter back from Dave when I wrote him about
- his Presidential campaign. More on that later.
