- I tend to agree with this. I live 1/2 drive from work. Cleveland complains
- that it has traffic problems, but I know they pale when compared with cities
- such as New York. My own particular driving path does not clog.
-
- I could ride the light rail, but I would have to change to a second light
- rail, then change to a city bus, and then change to the company bus to
- ultimately get to my office 1.5 hours later. The cost of the fares would be
- about the same as I spend on gasoline (somewhat less in the winter, actually,
- now that we have gasahol and the price for gas seems to be higher). I don't
- take the public transit because the company bus runs in limited hours, and
- due to the long commute, I would have to time my work day very well to
- ensure that I always had a ride back to the light rail system. If the rail
- system had a stop within walking distance of my office, I would probably
- take it. The cost to me would be about the same, and I could spend the time
- reading on the train. It also wouldn't drive my car into the ground so
- quickly. And my commute would be closer to 1 hour each way (I do a lot of
- reading; I wouldn't mind that commute! :) But, because of the multiple
- transfers and the lack of assurance of a ride, it's not worth it to me to
- patronize the public transit system.
-
- Admittedly, I could move closer to work.
-
- Just my $.02.
-
- Say, does anyone know what Dan Quayle's opinion of public transit is? (we
- know what Al Bore's is :)
