- Arrgh! Deja Vu!
-
- in 1965 or 6 I met Tricky Dick Nixon, who had been "out of politics" since
- 1962. Now, Nixon loved sports and became an entirely different person
- when sports were being discussed--he became genuinely alive and there
- was no sign of the jerky gestures and awkwardnesses that accompanied
- his statements about politics.
-
- Anyway, it had just been announced that he was being considered for
- commissioner of baseball. Someone in our group asked if he intended
- to accept. No, he replied, he was very busy with his law practice in
- New York (read running for president). I have always thought that
- both Nixon and the Nation would have been a lot happier if he had
- accepted.
-
- Since the original post I have been thinking about the proper job for
- Dan. The best I can come up with, in view of the possibility of
- GHWB becoming president of Yale, is Dean of the Ringling Brothers'
- Clown College.
