  20. DSS is Direct Station Selection.  Usually a button on a telephone
  21. or attendent console assigened to a station in the system. A small 
  22. system may have each station assigned to an individual button. On 
  23. an attendent console DSS buttons are used to extend a call on a 
  24. incoming line to the station assigned to the DSS button. On a telephone
  25. DSS buttons are used to place an internal call to the station assigened 
  26. to the DSS button and sometimes to transfer an external call to that 
  27. station, depending on the design of the system.
