  19. LArch-L:    An Electronic Forum for Landscape Architecture
  20.  
  21. The LArch-L is dedicated to the academic needs of landscape architecture.  It
  22. is anticipated that LArch-L will become a forum for a wide range of topics and
  23. serve a diverse group interested in landscape architecture.  The CELA Board
  24. has heartily endorsed LArch-L as a vehicle to increase communications and
  25. create an effective network among those interested in Landscape Architecture
  26. education and research.  Examples of possible uses for LArch-L are:
  27.  
  28. 1.  Discuss issues and ideas of interest to landscape architects, such as:
  29.     *  journal articles
  30.     *  current events
  31.     *  the 'theoretical foundations' of landscape architecture
  32.     *  the nature and appropriateness of LA education
  33.     *  how to fulfill our ethical and social responsibilities
  34.  
  35. 2.  Listserv's offer an opportunity to ask for help and/or advice from a
  36.     broader cross section of landscape architects than is represented at any
  37.     one institution:
  38.     *  questions about new technologies and/or products
  39.     *  finding previous research on topics of interest
  40.     *  comments regarding research ideas
  41.     *  experience with approaches to instruction
  42.     *  obtain instructional materials--slides, plant samples, etc.
  43.  
  44. 3.  Share information with your colleagues:
  45.     *  student internship opportunities
  46.     *  job postings
  47.     *  conference announcements and calls for papers
  48.     *  reviews of books/texts
  49.     *  posting grant announcements or RFPs
  50.  
  51. 4.  Develop collaborative projects and opportunities such as:
  52.     *  grant funding
  53.     *  set up tours for foreign visitors--or yourself
  54.     *  low cost comparative studies
  55.     *  joint studios
  56.  
  57. 5.  Provide a forum where we can effectively represent identify, discuss, and
  58.     act on our common interests:
  59.     *  review current and proposed legislation--and start letter writing
  60.        campaigns
  61.     *  debate the value of accreditation criteria and their relation to
  62.        licensure
  63.  
  64. LArch-L only requires access to Bitnet or Internet--it is otherwise free.  It
  65. is an unedited electronic forum open to all comers--therefore it is whatever
