- Hi, Ake!
-
- Actually, no, the "alt" groups are propigated to fewer system than the
- "mainstream" groups. The reason that "alt.archery" was created rather
- than "rec.archery" or "rec.sport.archery" is that it's much easier to
- create an "alt" newsgroup than a newsgroup in one of the mainstream
- hierarchies. Essentially, all you need to do is send out a addgoup
- message for the new alt group. With the "rec" groups, you have to go
- through a very long process of discussion, voting, and approval
- criteria in order to have a new newsgroup created net-wide.
-
- However, since alt.archery seems to be a going concern, maybe it's
- time for someone to post a RFD (Request for Discussion) in news.groups
- for creating a "rec.sport.archery". The details on the process are in
- a FAQ posting in news.answers every month, if someone is interested.
