  20.      From August 10-12, 1992, an "International Venus Colloquium"
  21. will be help at the California Institute of Technology's Ramo
  22. Auditorium in Pasadena.  More than 100 scientific researchers
  23. from around the world will present their results based on data
  24. from NASA's Magellan and Pioneer Venus missions and on earlier
  25. Soviet missions to Venus.  The colloquium will be particularly
  26. timely, as Magellan has almost completed its third radar mapping
  27. cycle around Venus, while Pioneer Venus is nearing its final
  28. entry into the planet's atmosphere.

  30.      The Lunar and Planetary Institute is providing organization
  31. for the colloquium.  Pam Jones (telephone 713-486-2150, facsimile
  32. 713-486-2160) is the point of contact for registration or
  33. logistics questions.

  35.      The conveners of the scientific program are Dr. R. Stephen
  36. Saunders at JPL (telephone 818-393-0877, facsimile 818-393-0530)
  37. and Dr. Sean C. Solomon at MIT (telephone 617-253-3786, facsimile
  38. 617-253-1699).

  40.      Registration before August 3 through LPI is $40 (students
  41. $20).  At the colloquium, registration will be $50 (students
  42. $30).  A free public lecture hosted by the Planetary Society will
  43. be held on Monday evening, August 10 at 8:00 PM.  Dr. A. T.
  44. Basilevsky from the Vernadsky Institute, of the Russian Academy
  45. of Sciences will speak on "Views of Venus: An Historical
  46. Perspective".

  49. or any of a broad range of other planetary programs in which the
  50. Lunar and Planetary Institute is involved may use an electronic
  51. bulletin board over the national computer networks.  On SPAN
  52. (DECNET), set host to LPI::.  On Internet, connect by "telnet" to
  53. "lpi.jsc.nasa.gov" (192.101.147.11).  On either network, give the
  54. username "lpi".  Among many other topics, this system gives
  55. access to the latest announcement and registration form for the
  56. Venus colloguium.  It also provides access to the full set of
  57. abstracts for the papers which will be presented.
