  11. I understand some of the remarks about profit making vs. non-profit making
  12. journals. Nevertheless the price of some journals is OBSCENE. One such is

  14. Theoretical Computer Science

  16. published by Elsevier. This now costs in the region of 900 pounds sterling
  17. in the UK which is more than that of the ENTIRE PACKAGE of journals that
  18. one can buy from the ACM including JACM, CACM, Computer Surveys, SIGPLAN
  19. notices, etc. etc.

  21. We have had to cancel our subscription to TCS. May I urge as many of you
  22. as have the authority to do so to follow our example. Maybe a mass desertion
  23. might persuade the publishers to bring down their prices (their other journals
  24. also seem to be sky high).
