- CALL FOR DISCUSSION
-
- What waveforms are satisfactory for exciting hard piezoelectric
- ultrasonic transducers and what are the advantages/disadvantages
- of these waveforms? Are the answers to these questions a function
- of the frequency of the transducer? My own interest is in
- transducers in the 2MHz to 10 MHz range, not the 50kHz devices
- used in ranging.
-
- A bibliography on the subject would be welcome. This would ideally
- include circuits to implement the excitation signals.
-
- Suggestions so far have been:
- 1)Negative going capacitor discharge for circuit simplicity.
- 2)Negative going single spike, no reason offered. The example
- given is a symmetrical -110V spike with a 15ns pulse width at
- 70% of (negative) peak voltage.
- BTW: This waveform description is based on the generating circuit
- operating on a 50 ohm resistor, _not_ a PZT.
- 3)A train of pulses at the natural frequency of the transducer, as
- this (allegedly) results in the maximum output from the transducer.
-
- Replies by email, land mail or phone will be gathered and posted if
- interest is indicated. I understand that a number of readers do not
- post.
