- Hi:
- I wonder if someone could share a bit of knowledge with me?
- I haven't really fooled around with hands-on-electronics since
- my Heathkit and ham-radio days (about 25 years ago), so am not
- at all sure what sort of chips are available these days.
-
- What I have is a small box with a built-in speaker which
- emits a ~25K Hz (above the range us humans can hear) when I
- press a button. The strength of the signal is very small.
-
- What I want to do is to amplify this signal and drive a
- larger speaker. The way that I'd like to do it is to pull the
- signal which is now going to the built-in speaker off and direct
- it to an audio amplifier. The output of the audio amplifier would
- then go to the larger speaker, with a variable control. The
- maximum desired signal would be 10 watts.
-
- Back in the "good ole days" I'd have gone to my trusty ARRL
- manual, or something like that, and found a circuit for an audio
- board, and built it up with a transistor and variable resistor.
- I feel sure that there is probably a chip available to do the same
- thing, but don't know what it might be. (I've asked in my local
- Radio Shack store, but the clerk there is not too bright. She tried
- to instead sell me a hi-fi amplifer :-)
-
- Thanks for any help. BTW, I'm guessing on the exact frequency
- of around 25K Hz, but it is around there somewhere (this device is a
- dog training device, and the sound emitted is at a doggy frequency.
- I need to extend the range).
-
