- I have a GE microwave oven that is blowing fuses when the high voltage
- transformer is switched on by the triac when using the 'low' or 'medium'
- settings. The triac is turned on by an opto-isolator driven by the
- timer board. When the triac turns on, my ammeter shows about a 40 amp
- surge (the needle moves to about half scale, I don't know how much is
- needle inertia, because the triac shuts off immediatly [and it should
- with that kind of load!]). Another indication of the surge is a slight
- dimming of the lights on that circuit at the same time. When operated
- on high, the oven works fine. My question is: Is it likely to be a bad
- triac, or timer board? The oven was manufactured in 1983 and has given
- me no problems at all with daily use (except for a few burned out bulbs).
