  13. Our '87 Celebrity wagon has been giving me fits on the freeway; when we try to
  14. accelerate from 50-55 for passing, or give it additional gas to make the
  15. upslope of a hill, it bogs down, autoshifting down occassionally into 2nd.a
  16. Engine RPM will fall off, and we'll get plenty of black exhaust, until we're
  17. in the worst case in first gear.

  19. The engine, yes, is only the 2.3L 4-cylinder, but loads of the Celebrities
  20. have them, and we've had four trouble-free years where this problem never
  21. presented itself with typical loads.

  23. As this is (a) somewhat rare, and (b) seems to require a hot day, and (c) a long
  24. freeway climb, and (d) the Fates to smile on us, I've yet to be able to
  25. reproduce the situation  for my mechanic.

  27. Anyone else seen this?

  29. And has anyone out there done a swap of the 2.8L turbocharged 6-cylinder for
  30. one of these (I love the whine as the turbo kicks in!)??
