  15. I have an 87 Mercury Sable with 3.0L V6 with 65,000 miles.
  16. A couple of weeks ago the fuel pump started making
  17. a loud humming noise. It is nearly constant at all speeds.
  18. I have three theories:
  19.  
  20. 1.    The pump is going bad and needs replacing.
  21. 2.    The fuel filter needs replacing.
  22. 3.    Something has come loose such as a bracket,
  23.     insulation, etc.

  25. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

  27. Also, the paint on the hood (but no where else) is starting
  28. to look like it was buffed with steel wool. When you look
  29. at an angle you can see large areas running front to back
  30. that look bad.

  32. Any ideas or suggests?
