- I assume by "vinyl" that you mean some sort of (semi-)rigid plastic?
- (in the UK we use vinyl to refer to a more flexible type of covering).

- You can halt the progress of cracks in many materials by drilling a hole
- at each end of the crack: this reduces the stress at that point. You could
- then fill it in with adhesive, or whatever. I had to do that recently with
- a split in a beer barrel made of a polythene-type of plastic (before you ask:
- no, it wasn't full of beer at the time).
