- I used J-B Weld about two years ago to repair the carburetor on my '84
- Honda Accord. I had to take off the carburetor in order to replace the
- insulator (base plate), which was leaking on the bottom.
-
- One of the five nuts holding the carb to the base plate was frozen. In
- the end, I had to remove the base plate with the carb still attached,
- then drill holes in the offending nut until it was weakened enough to
- come off using a needle-nosed Vise-Grip. (The stud which the nut went
- onto was part of the base plate, which I had to replace anyway, so it
- didn't matter that it was ruined by the drilling.)
-
- Anyway, in the process of removing the nut, I broke off one of the vac-
- uum hose fittings in the back of the carb.
-
- A friend recommended J-B Weld. I got some, then stood the carb up on
- end with the broken fitting pointing up. I took a small stick (actu-
- ally, it was the little red plastic straw from a can of WD-40), stuck
- it down the hole, and threaded the broken-off metal tube over it. I
- mixed some J-B Weld and applied it all around the broken area, then let
- it sit for a day or so until it was thoroughly cured.
-
- The car is still running fine, two years later.
-
- Yes, I know I could probably have dug out the part of the metal tube
- that was left in the carb, then replaced it with a new tube -- but the
- J-B Weld fix definitely worked.
